Circular economy stands up

Press releases - 30 Apr 2019

alchemia-nova, member of the HOUSEFUL project, has launched a series of stand-up innovation events to boost the uptake of circular economy at home level

On the eve of the 2nd of April 2019, HOUSEFUL partner alchemia-nova organised the first stand up innovation event at the Packhaus Vienna. The event was based on the traditional stand-up comedy format, but with an important difference: instead of comics performing comedy, it gathered scientists, pioneer thinkers, and circular economy pundits to discuss circular economy at home. The experts focused on how innovative technologies can integrate circular solutions, and how consumers can apply circular economy principles on a daily basis at their places.

The event was opened by three keynote speeches, focusing respectively on: innovations in circular economy in combination with nature-based solutions (Johannes Kisser, CTO alchemia-nova), circular economy best practice examples (Rainer Pamminger, Technical University Vienna) and innovation drivers (Mario Gruber, King’s College London). In particular, Kisser’s presentation informed the audience of the work being performed within HOUSEFUL.

The speeches were followed by an interactive session on enablers and barriers to circular economy approaches in the housing sector. The informal part was rounded off by special green cocktails and dedicated decoration, opening the discussion on bringing circular economy practices into everyday life.

The first stand-up innovation event was a great start for a series of planned interactions with the public based on real-life experiences and hands-on circular economy principles” said Kisser.

About 100 visitors from different sectors took part in the discussion and the interactive session.

The audience mainly included general public mixed with representatives from the scientific community and policy makers.
