HOUSEFUL and one of its demo-buildings have been accepted as candidate for Vienna’s first International Building Exhibition

HOUSEFUL and one of its demo-buildings located in Donaufelder Straße 115 in Vienna have been nominated as candidate for the 2022 International Building Exhibition (IBA) Vienna, the first of its kind to take place in the Austrian capital. A description of HOUSEFUL (in German) is now available on the IBA_Vienna’s website.

The organisation of IBA_Vienna and the event’s motto “New Social Housing” reflect the city’s aim to provide its citizens with high-quality, affordable housing. Goal of the exhibition is to develop and promote solutions and approaches to embrace current challenges such as: the city’s high paste of growing, the demographic transformation, social inclusion and mix, and climate protection.

As reported on the IBA_Vienna website, the Executive City Councillor for Women’s Issues and Housing Kathrin Gaál stated that “In organising the International Building Exhibition 2022, the City of Vienna is focusing on the innovative and further development of social housing. This is a continuation of a hundred years of successful tradition in social housing in order to actively shape outstanding new developments in the field of housing and housing construction.” Currently, other IBAs are being held in Basel, Thüringen, Heidelberg, Parkstad and Stuttgart.

To be accepted as candidates, projects must pass an assessment by the IBA Advisory Committee. A second round of evaluation will establish whether a candidate project can become an IBA project. If so, the successful projects will be admitted to the dedicated exhibitions in 2020 and 2022.
