Sharing the HOUSEFUL approach to biogas

Press releases - 06 Aug 2019

HOUSEFUL solutions for biogas production have been presented at two events in France and Spain

The HOUSEFUL project and its solutions for the production of biogas at the building level have been presented by partner CARTIF Technology Center at two events: the 5th International Congress on Water, Waste and Energy Management (WWEM-19), which took place in Paris from the 22nd to the 24th of July 2019, and the Workshop El biometano: una alternativa de abastecimiento energético con mucho futuro, held in Valladolid (Spain) on the 29th of July 2019.

The WWEM-19 offered researchers a possibility to discuss results and new ideas to problems related to the management of water, waste and energy. The event was organised by scientists from four Spanish universities (University Complutense of MadridUniversity Carlos III of MadridUniversity of Extremadura and University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria), supported by the Sciknowledge European Conferences. Mr Jesús M. Martín from CARTIF presented the biogas upgrading technology that HOUSEFUL will install in its demo-buildings. More specifically, he talked about the work done to determine the optimal conditions for a more efficient separation of the two principal biogas components (methane and carbon dioxide). This study is particularly relevant as the demand for methane-rich biogas is increasing, due to its use as vehicle fuel and in the natural gas grid.

The goal of the workshop in Valladolid was to present conventional and industrial use of biomethane. The event was organised by the Instituto para la Competitividad Empresarial de Castilla y León (ICE), in collaboration with CARTIF. HOUSEFUL member Mrs Dolores Hidalgo, Director of the Circular Economy Area at CARTIF, gave a presentation on the different technologies for biomethane production. Mr Sergio Sanz-Bedate, also from CARTIF, commented on how HOUSEFUL solutions lead to the production of biomethane.

Both events offered the chance to inform relevant stakeholders of HOUSEFUL and its solutions. Biogas is an important resource for our society and innovative approaches such as those developed by HOUSEFUL can pave the way to better management.
