The Solution 11 proposed in HOUSEFUL aims to guarantee circularity improvements and energy savings in buildings. Energy saving monitoring using active and passive measures can be adopted from material and energy points of view.
Concerning the type of contract, a final decision has not been made yet, but different business models will be considered (i.e.: PPS / PPP services to be offered for Residential retrofit and / or industries).
One example is pay per performance models, where manufacturers keep the ownership of the products and leases them to the client. This type of contract ensures that manufacturers are incentivized to design long-lasting and highly efficient solutions. Pay per performance models can be reduced to simple lease models and still be a valid solution for renewable energy systems for example, although this option presents higher risks as system performance may not be guaranteed by the provider. In addition, alternative models can include pay per service unit, where provider is responsible for all costs of the product and it is still incentivised to optimise the design of the product, and thus lead to energy savings in the buildings.
